Skate Create Meditate Halloween Drop-in

The leaves were falling and autumn was coming to a close. What better way to wrap up the 2021 Skate Create Meditate program than by having a drop-in Halloween Party! All the staff, volunteers, and guests came dressed to the nines in their best Halloween costumes. There were plenty of treats to snack on while the children helped to carve pumpkins and decorate the Peace Theatre!

The weekly drop-in nights are always fun. It's an opportunity for young, old, beginner, and pro skaters to connect as a community. We have extra boards, pads, and helmets and Instructors are always available to teach and guide beginners. We set up an art station for people to doodle and draw. On October 28, we put on costumes and we were tucked away in the woods near an old mansion on a cool fall evening. The perfect backdrop for a Halloween party!

Everyone tried their best to skateboard in costume. Dickies donated some skate swag for 2 contests. One for the best trick and another for best costume. 3 special kids got the most votes for the best costume. Of course one of the winners was the giant inflatable dinosaur costume!

We used the mini ramp for the best trick contest and a couple of daring skaters participated in a hill bomb contest down the winding lane to Dawes Rd.

The atmosphere was so lovely that night and no one wanted to leave. As the sun disappeared behind the trees, everyone packed up and started to head home. Our drop-ins provided such a unique experience for everyone involved. New friendships and passions are cultivated at every drop-in.

Looking Ahead

Skaters have put away their boards for the winter, but once the weather clears up in the spring again, we will be hitting the pavement!

To continue and expand our weekly drop-ins for 2022, we will need more support. The Toronto skateboard community welcomed us and supported our program with in-kind donations, promotions, and volunteer work. We are building and strengthening these relationships to also help amplify BIPOC representation in the sport.

Maybe you came out and really enjoyed our drop-in, or perhaps you just resonate with the work we are doing. Either way, you should consider supporting Skate Create Meditate in 2022.
